Product Focus: Olive Oils
A good quality olive oil can really enhance all kinds of dishes. Dressing salads, drizzling on fresh bread or pizza or on grilled, roasted meat or fish. We have a range of extra virgin olive oils from Italy, Spain, France and Australia, each of them with their own distinctive taste. Some of them are spicy, some peppery and fruity whilst others are more subtle and smooth.
A good extra virgin olive oil is similar to a good wine, bringing more tasting pleasure than an everyday brand, particularly when it is used raw and not heated or cooked. Cooking with an extra virgin olive oil will generally take away some of the unique flavours so to taste it at its best, use it in its natural state. Extra virgin olive oil is the best olive oil you can buy as it has the least acidity (0.5%) giving it a smooth and rounded taste. It is made from cold-pressing in a process which yields the best flavours.
Once you have started using your olive oil, to keep it in best condition, store it away from direct light, preferably in a cool and dark cupboard. Generally, they will keep for about a year, if kept in these conditions.
